Hempnall First Team v Scole United Res

Report By Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)

Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2021 - 2022

Loss, 1 - 10

We had a disappointing game at home in the Cup against Scole Reserves. We should have called the match off as whilst the pitch was ostensibly playable at the beginning of the match, as the rains came, the torrential downpours made it pretty well unplayable, but unfortunately, not, in the eyes of the referee (who had an excellent game) or his assessor, they didn't consider it quite sufficient to abandon the match. The pitch is now pretty well ruined but that's life at grassroots level. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

However, this is not a rant, but I would like to say that despite the mauling, I was very proud of the players. Three had returned from Covid, this being their first time out after their isolation period. Two were still injured, and the manager had to play a substantial period of the match to replace exhausted players.

Taking nothing away from Scole who were excellent on the day, (I see their home match was postponed due to pitch condition!!), we simply could not compete but all players did their best under very trying circumstances.

Thanks also to Scole for staying after.
