Saturday, 13th April 2024, 1:30PM, at Hempnall #1
Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2023 - 2024
Loss, 0 - 5
Hempnall took on top team Dussindale at home in their second last game of the season.
Under the new management of Billy Kelly and Matt Jillings, with Asa Hartford injured and directing from the sidelines, we knew that Hempnall would find it tough against probably the best team in the division.
Hempnall were also missing two important players in Shaun Kelly,, injured, and Jordan Dale, suspended, just to add to their woes.
Nevertheless, whilst Dussindale did most of the attacking, Hempnall were seeing them off, until a corner was converted via an excellent header for 0-1.
Not long after, a superb finish from the Dussindale forward saw a half time score of 0-2, which was probably a fair reflection of the half, though Hempnall did have several half chances not put away, the most disappointing being a cross along the ground that nobody could deflect in.
The second half saw Hempnall change formation slightly, and for 20 minutes looked the more likely side to score, thinking a goal back would really make a game of it.
Unfortunately, Hempnall missed a good couple of chances, and Dussindale scored their third, which deflated Hempnall, who went on to concede another couple of goals for a 0-5 defeat.
This was definitely no 0-5 game, Dussindale were clearly the better team overall, but Hempnall could have made it a much closer game had they taken their chances and not made individual errors to gift a couple of goals.
This was an enjoyable game exceptionally well refereed by Mr. Hickson-Lovence.
