Saturday, 30th January 2016, 2PM, at
Home Match, Anglian Combination Division 1 - 2015 - 2016
Hempnall v Hellesdon,
Loss, 0 - 3
In front of a good number of spectators, on a less slippery surface than the week before, we were expecting a good, tight encounter. It was good but not quite as tight as we had hoped, with Hellesdon putting away their chances to secure a 0-3 victory.
Hempnall should not be downhearted, and showed plenty enough to suggest they will accumulate enough points to stay in this division, despite all of the changes the manager has made.
The side bears no resemblance to that which started the campaign, and it is great credit to Greg and his new squad that the team remains competitive. They just lack a cutting edge and a degree of cohesion which will come when the players are more used to each others play.
Some of the play by both sides was very good, and Hempnall certainly showed glimpses of what we can expect with more regularity in the coming weeks in all areas of the pitch.
Hempnall, whilst being mobile going forward, didn't make the most of their half chances, corners or free kicks, not really looking like scoring enough on the day, certainly not enough to trouble Hellesdon on this occasion anyway.
The players are clearly confident they can improve results, and why shouldn't they be? The skill levels are there, the attitude is good, and the management are working hard to create the balance required.
