Hempnall Reserves v Waveney Reserves,

Loss, 1 - 7

Once again the Hempnall Reserves managers must be scratching their heads, wondering just how they were beaten by a score that didn't reflect the game. Waveney were clearly the better team overall, but certainly not by the margin in the scores.

For the first 25 minutes, Hempnall matched, and in some respects outplayed, Waveney, and had the best of the early chances which they couldn't take, and even at this level, if you don't take your chances, you know that eventually, you will succumb, and that is exactly what happened.

The first of Waveney's goals was an own goal, conceded in rather unfortunate circumstances, but still Hempnall looked capable, and they were certainly giving Waveney a good test, hitting them on the break, but to no avail.

Before half time, Waveney scored a further two goals to go into the break 3-0 up.

Then Hempnall came out looking good, but injury to Talbot, probably their best defender, and Robins, one of Hempnall's consistent performers, left them open.

Missing their strongest tacklers, Hempnall had a mad 10 minutes when Waveney scored seemingly almost at will.

Nevertheless, Hempnall's heads didn't drop, and they were well motivated by their new player, Mateusz Tekiela, who looked good both at the front and when he filled in at the back. Also, Matt Oakley, the manager, came on to show his class, the tide began to turn and Hempnall got back into the match with a nicely taken goal.

The overall squad looks stronger recently, and once they gel and become more accustomed to each other's games, results will improve.
