Hempnall F.C. Reserves v Redgate Rangers

Report By No specific role (No specific role)

Saturday, 03rd January 2015, 2PM, at Hempnall #1

Home Match, Anglian Combination Division 4 - 2014 - 2015

Loss, 0 - 3

With the New Year's festivities well and truly over Hempnall Reserves faced Redgate with the top versus bottom clash.

The game itself was in doubt as the weather resembled an Indonesian typhoon causing the once great river Tas to break it's banks. Once again it was left to our groundsman who conjured a miracle not for the first time.

Named after the Greek God of Turf, Ramundios, Ray had been up all night with hairdryer in one hand and Tibetan book of prayer in the other.

Sun and wind is what he prayed for and although neither came to his rescue the 3-speed, battery powered hair dryer had all but blown away any free standing water when the clock struck 2pm.

The villagers arrived in their droves to watch the mighty Hempnall reserves, their t-shirts read 'Je Suis Hempnall'. Even the Red Side of South Norfolk arrived to offer support while on a probably reconnaissance mission for future battles.

The game was played with commitment if nothing else, both teams battled for control for long periods. It was Redgate who took the first half and Hempnall pulled back into the game in the second.

Come 90 minutes the points were taken by Redgate, but the hearts and minds were won by Hempnall.

Winning isn't everything...
