Hempnall First Team v Long Stratton

Report By No specific role (No role)

Saturday, 18th January 2014, 2PM, at Long Stratton Playing Field #1

Away Match, Anglian Combination Division 1 - 2013 - 2014

Loss, 0 - 5

Last week we went away to long Stratton in a local derby, we were all hoping to push on and get a bit of respectability back to the team.

Long Stratton sit top of the league but after our previous meeting were looking for a tight game, unfortunately we were never at the races, Stratton were up for the game and it showed.

Within the first 5 minutes we conceded from sloppy play and gifted them the first goal, a second soon followed another bit of sloppy play saw an unchallenged second, the game went from bad to worse with the loss of Bevis and a reshuffle was needed. We had a good 20 minutes but were unable to find a final pass, the break couldn’t come quick enough for Hempnall as Stratton started to control the game.

The second half started even with both teams having little spells but neither Keeper having much to do, we then lost D Mortimer and had to change the system. Hempnall were berthed of ideas and Stratton started to take control they scored their 3rd and the game was put to bed, the 4th and 5th soon followed and to be fair it could have been more, that was the first time this season we were unable to find any sort of rhythm in our play passes lacked any purpose and seem to be to short or too long.

We hope to put our bad start to 2014 behind us today and show we are a match for anybody especially at home, the quality of players we have at the club now should be good enough to get us out of our league position at the bottom of the Division 1 but the table doesn’t lie so it’s up to the players to put in the hard work and move us up the table.
