Hempnall First Team v (HT 2-1)

Report By No specific role (No role)

Saturday, 14th December 2013, 2PM, at Hempnall #1

Home Match, Anglian Combination Division 1 - 2013 - 2014

Win, 6 - 2

The management team would like to thank all the players, committee and supporters for all their support in 2013.

The game against Hindringham was where we played some great football and put the Hindringham team to the sword. Hempnall started well probing down the left and right without a final ball of any note; after 10 minutes a great bit of interplay saw Chapman get down the flank and float a delightful ball to the back post where Lambe calmly headed home from 8 yards giving the keeper no chance.

Hempnall then started to put their feet on the ball and stroke some great passes all over the field. Hindringham equalised when a corner was deflected off a Hempnall player's leg to leave Thomas in goal wrong footed.

New signings making their home debuts were Roy Bevis, Matt Atkins, Jamie Riley and Benji Moon and all looked accomplished on the ball and it showed; Atkins and Moon at the back looked solid and in command never troubled, Riley was winning all the battles in the middle of the park and laying the ball to D Mortimer to pick the passes to the forward players. Knight was causing problems to the back four all game with his constant movement and great control, but Bevis up top was unplayable. He made it 2-1 before the break with a neat finish after a great move.

The second half saw Hempnall being pressed by Hindringham who came out fast and with purpose but a great bit of keeping by Thomas kept the ball out, Hempnall weathered the storm and started to take control again, Bevis found the net for a second time when he turned the defence and clipped the ball over the keeper. From the kick off Hempnall won the ball back and with quick passing and a great through ball by Knight saw Bevis again find the net slotting past the keeper for his 3rd of the game and Hempnall's 4th.

Hindringham pushed again and with a debatable penalty pulled another goal back to 4-2 but that is where the game was finally put to bed when Bevis went straight down the park to make it 5. There were about 15 minutes left and a great bit of work in the middle by Riley laid the ball to A Collison who slid a great ball through the defence where Bevis again picked the ball up and a great first time shot found the net for his 5th and Hempnall's 6th,

Great efforts by Knight, Mortimer and Chapman could have made it more but they couldn’t find the net.

All in all a great performance from the lads and a sign of things to come with the right effort and commitment we have a squad that can push up the table and end in a respectable position in the league; the positives are that the squad have deserved this type of result for their performances lately and it is something to build on.
