Saturday, 24th August 2013, 1:30PM, at Hempnall #1
Home Match, Anglian Combination Division 1 - 2013 - 2014
Win, 1 - 0
The first team entertained Horsford again in their first home game of the season, with injuries to both centre halves and keeper it was always going to be an uphill battle, Ryan Haynes was also missing from the midfield so the small squad were going to be pushed to their limits against a powerful Horsford team.
Craig Collison, Aaron Haynes and Dan Millican were back after their unavailability midweek and new Keeper Jay Haze making his debut, with a lack of defenders joint manager Andrew Collison had to start the game hoping his experience would make the defence a little more solid.
The game started at a frenetic pace with both teams unable to put their stamp into the game, after about 20 minutes the game calmed down and both teams had little spells but neither could find a good opening and most plays were snubbed out without any real danger, on the 30 minutes mark a good interchange between Jones and Halsey, saw Halsey slip a bit of space and from 30 yards hit a swerving shot that the goalkeeper could only get a hand on but the pace sent it into the back of the net 1-0 to Hempnall, Halsey again from a free kick just before the break found the side netting with the keeper well beaten.
The second half was more of the same from both teams with limited chances from both sides the only one of note was a great run from Dean Mortimer who rounded 3 defenders to see his shot deflected tamely into the keepers arms, final score 1-0 to Hempnall.
It has to be said that the Hempnall defence were water tight and looked in total control of all situations, the running and work rate from the midfield was a pleasure to see and Mark Goddard up top worked for 90 minutes trying to create openings and causing problems for the Horsford defence, all in all a well-earned 3 points for Hempnall after the drubbing Tuesday by the same team, it goes to show that at this level the commitment has to be at 100% from the players and any weakness will be punished, keep it up lads as new players join and strengthen the team it only shows that positive attitudes win you games.
