Hempnall First Team v Sprowston U23

Away Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 South - 2025 - 2026

Win, 4 - 1

Hempnall travelled to fellow promotion pushing Sprowston for a league clash that saw the reverse fixture end in tatters for the clarets.

Only six days prior to this fixture saw Sprowston hammer Hempnall 6-0 in their own back garden! Not much motivation needed from the manager before the game.

Hempnall started slowly with Sprowston having a lot of the ball as expected, and they were rewarded early on when a cross from the left was allowed to bounce too many times before a neat finish.

Hempnall needed to up their game if not a repeat of Monday was looming.

And that’s exactly what happened. Hempnall grew further into the game. A few chances got away from us but finally we equalised! Gent with a lovely low hit free kick that could only be parried out to the man of the moment, Jutty Womack.

Hempnall looked to kick on, and were rewarded again soon after when Shaun Kelly reacted quickest to prod in a fierce strike from 5 yards out with the goalkeeper nowhere.

HT 1-2

Second half started much like the first ended with Hempnall seemingly on top, however the next goal was critical for both teams.

With Cattermole and Etherington providing threat down each wing, equally our defensive line were holding out superbly.

Hempnall soon got a third, debatable who scored the goal as it appeared to hit both Shaun Kelly and Dan New. The squad agreed it was Shaun’s goal (not to Dan’s pleasure). 1-3 and Hempnall were starting to play some really nice one touch football.

The fourth came 15 minutes from time, Cattermole found by Gent down the right, Cattermole then played a beautifully weighted pass to New who timed his run to perfection and finished equally as well.

Hempnall finished strong and perhaps could’ve had a few more but were more than satisfied with a 4-1 win away from home against a very organised and in form team.

This result puts Hempnall second in the league and really putting pressure on the leading other teams in the Division.

MOTM was tough, there were standout performances from Watts, Womack, Cattermole, New and Shaun Kelly.

MOTM decided by the squad was Shaun Kelly for his two goals and all round excellent defensive display.
