Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 South - 2025 - 2026
Win, 6 - 1
Hempnall hosted Corton & Carlton Colville for a Wednesday evening league clash. With the back logged fixtures coming close to an end, Hempnall were looking to bounce back from the awful performance 48 hours ago against Sprowston.
The team from Monday was largely the same, the only changes were Jamie Bennett took over between the sticks and Dan New was returning from holiday up top, in for the injured Huxtable.
Hempnall clearly had a point to prove from the last game and looked lively right from the off. Although nothing was clinical enough in front of goal, a whole host of chances going begging, Herbert striking the post and a long range strike from Cattermole that just flew past the post being Hempnall’s closest opportunities, things were looking very positive.
The deadlock was finally broken after 40 minutes when Marjoram gambled on a sloppy piece of defending, allowing him to sneak in behind and execute a looping finishing over the onrushing goalkeeper! An excellent finish.
HT 1-0
A change was made at half time to try and finish the game off as quickly as possible. Off was Watts, who was nursing an injury, on came Gent to sit along side Cattermole in the CAM to try and finish the game off.
Second half, possibly from so much dominance in the first, Hempnall started sloppily and gave the ball away too cheaply, didn’t clear defensive lines despite multiple opportunities, and ultimately paid the price, as five minutes into the second half they were punished with a beautiful finish to make it 1-1.
This goal only sparked Hempnall into life. Continued dominance, proving to much for the opposition and the clarets restored the lead within five minutes, a corner whipped in, headed back into the box by Kelly for Marjoram to volley in for his, and Hempnall’s, second.
Hempnall didn’t take long to add a third, with Marjoram heavily involved down the right, sending in a first time low cross to the back post for Herbert to tap into an empty net. 3-1.
Hempnall had total control of the game now and looked like scoring at every attempt. Tails were up and they were going for the kill.
Marjoram soon made it 4-1 with a lovely move, played in by Cattermole, one touch, turn and hit straight into the bottom corner. HATRICK!
Herbert made it 5-1 a few moments later with a devastating counter attacking goal! Assisted again by Marjoram from a flicked header.
Marjoram finished his incredible display by finishing low into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to make it 6-1 on the night.
An all round exceptional performance from Hempnall and on a different day with some better finishing in the first half, the score line could have looked even healthier.
Man of the match with the entire squad vote was Hayden Marjoram for his excellent performance and for providing 4 goals and 2 assists.
He was bought of after 85 minutes to a well deserved standing ovation from everyone in attendance.
