Away Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 South - 2025 - 2026
Win, 5 - 1
Hempnall travelled to CEYMS Reserves, looking to maintain their fine season. On a beautiful pitch, it turned into a comfortable victory, though Hempnall were, for a large part of the game, below standard
For the first 20 minutes, the teams were evenly matched, Hempnall unusually lax, though new player Huxtable, came close with a cross shot, but CEYMS responded but their well directed corner was well defended.
Hempnall were looking comfortable but still wasteful. Cattermole came close, thwarted only by brave keeping.
Up stepped Gent to hit a shot to give Hempnall the lead.
Hempnall were shading it still, but Swatman was the next called into action with a comfortable save to keep it at 1-0.
Hempnall broke quickly, Etherington's run stopped when he was upended in the opposition box, and up stepped Gent to despatch an excellent penalty for 2-0. That's how it stayed until half time.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, Hempnall wasteful, but the first chance fell to veteran sub, Leather, again brave keeping kept the score unchanged.
Continued Hempnall pressure brought further dividends, with an excellent finish from Gent gave Hempnall an unassailable 3-0 lead
A superb finish from Herbert extended Hempnall's lead to 4-0 before an unexpected sin-bin for questioning a decision saw the Hempnall 10 men concede through a superb long range effort.
The unlucky Billy Kelly hit the bar, the ball stayed out, before his brother Shaun was first to react to secure Hempnall's fifth
Swatman had to tip the ball over the bar to keep the score at 5-1, and that's how it ended.
Man of the match was Gent for his hat trick, closely followed by Shaun Kelly.
