Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 South - 2025 - 2026
Win, 4 - 2
Hempnall met joint second placed team, Blofield Utd Reserves at Bungay Road for this important encounter.
Hempnall welcomed back two missing key players, Watts and Etherington, both starting as substitutes due to the club rule.
After edging last week’s Junior Cup encounter with a lower league team, Hempnall were determined to ensure they despatch chances, the previous week a number had gone begging.
We knew a tough game was likely, and the game started with the teams looking evenly matched, both defences coping with the various attacks mounted, and Swatman in the Hempnall goal had to be alert to tip a decent effort over, the resulting corner was eventually cleared.
Hempnall were easing their way into the game, the confidence rising, and their quick, one touch football was creating ample opportunities for the forwards, with the hard running Daniel New and Mikey Goldie being especially lively and causing problems for Blofield.
Hempnall’s attacks caused corners to be conceded, and they came close on several occasions, Herbert should probably have converted but put his effort just past the upright.
Hempnall were now looking by far the most likely to score, and one move saw New rifle in a good shot past the keeper for number 1.
Blofield didn’t drop their heads though, and a few decent attacks were thwarted quite comfortably, but Hempnall were on the attack for most of the time, and another corner from Gent was eventually despatched by Shaun Kelly for 2-0.
Both teams continued to go forward, though Hempnall were looking the most likely to score though Blofield did have a couple of half chances, both dealt with, and a further effort was helped over the bar by the excellent Swatman.
Half time 2-0 though Hempnall should probably have had more.
The second half saw a more determined Blofield, and a less dominant Hempnall, with Hempnall’s quick football not now quite finding the mark.
Whilst Hempnall had a few chances, it was now Blofield that looked the more likely, and siome hesitant play saw Blofield sneak in with a good finish for 2-1.
Hempnall were not downhearted though, and another fine attack saw Lake crash the ball home for 3-1.
With still 15 minutes left, Hempnall were still attacking, but it was Blofield who still had determination and scored a second.
We thought that might be the turning point but Hempnall kept their cool and continued going forward, one attack resulting in Etherington blasting home for 4-2.
More attacks both ends, but no further goals, meaning Hempnall secured a much deserved 4-2 victory to return to second place in the Division.
There were some very good performances all round, but man of the match for his superb, non stop, running and excellent hold up play (plus the goal), goes to Dan New.
