Saturday, 08th February 2025, 2PM, at Lingwood Village Hall #1
Away Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 South - 2024 - 2025
Loss, 1 - 5
Hempnall travelled to SWFC Lingwood for their qf Junior Cup match.
Their previous league encounter saw Lingwood edge the game 2-1 in a close encounter and we were expecting a similar game.
On a stodgy, slippy pitch, mistakes would be inevitable to influence the game.
The game started evenly, both sides looked good going forward, but the first real chance fell to Hempnall's Herbert whose skill set up a good chance which he couldn't despatch.
Lingwood hit back and typical of the game today, nothing went for Hempnall, Lingwood took advantage of some ricochets in the Hempnall box to score their first.
The game went from end to end, Hempnall had chances, how the Lingwood goal stayed intact is anybody's guess.
Then a lovely cross from Kelly after a good run saw the keeper just divert the ball to thwart Hempnall.
Herbert again looked threatening on a couple of occasions, but nothing came of them.
The Hempnall keeper, Ryan, made an excellent save but in the process injured his eye and had to be replaced, fortunately by Hempnall's normal first choice, Swatman, back from injury.
The outcome of all of this action was 0-2 at half time.
Hempnall were looking to respond quickly, but in essence followed the first, with Hempnall's chances not converted, and somehow, Lingwood managed to to convert another three.
Hempnall were awarded a final minute penalty, which was converted for 5-1.
This was the least one sided 5-1 imaginable, but well done to Lingwood and best of luck in the semis.
An excellent game, very well refereed.
There were some good Hempnall performances but my mom was 'I'll cover every blade of grass' George Watts.
