Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 South - 2024 - 2025
Win, 5 - 1
Hempnall welcomed Harleston Town Reserves to Bungay Road for their second consecutive home match.
After a disjointed and disappointing performance against Caister in their first game of the season, Hempnall were determined to give a better performance against a side likely to be one of the better sides in the division.
From the off, we thought the game was likely to be difficult; Harleston started brightly, and edged the first 15 minutes, though Hempnall grew into the game, with Etherington back to boost the wing play, and Hempnall looked extremely dangerous going forward.
The midfield with Watts and Gent in great form, were combining well, and the defence were largely able to snuff out the Harleston threat.
After Etherington was upended in the box, the excellent Gent stepped up to make it 1-0.
Harleston still looked threatening, but a combination of good midfield and defensive play, allied to poor finishing, allowed Hempnall to stay in control
Etherington continued his forward threat, and scored Hempnall’s second, rounding the keeper after an assist from Jake Gent.
Hempnall’s third came from Etherington’s shot from the edge of box which Womack deflected in.
Herbert scored Hempnall’s fourth from a slightly deflected but good, shot.
Hempnall were in control, and their fifth came from new boy New, who beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper and walked the ball in.
Hempnall also had a goal disallowed for a rather harsh “handball” by Womack who really deserved a goal for his standard, non-stop, performance.
There were some very good performances today, it is difficult to pick out a man of the match but the lads voted for George Watts after a superb, battling performance full of quality.
