Hempnall FC

For the second time in two weeks, Hempnall met Great Yarmouth Reserves, this time at home and in the League Cup. 

Having seen the opposition off with a comfortable 4-1 victory at their place, regrettably, Hempnall struggled to field a side due to illness, holidays and a suspension and with Yarmouth strengthening with their allowed first teamers, it was always going to be difficult.

Hempnall started very slowly, allowing Yarmouth to cut through and score after a minute, and a second after a couple. I looked like a rout might be on the cards, but Hempnall reacted well, with Matt Jillings heading in from a Billy Kelly corner.

Hempnall looked to compete well, they were just a bit slow compared to the previous week, and with the Yarmouth number 7 looking a very good player, and their team looking generally stronger, their midfield play outdid Hempnall’s, though there were a number of forays into the Yarmouth area, but Hempnall were just short of quality up front with Womack missing. 

The game was surprisingly fairly even, though Yarmouth managed another 3 goals before half time, and the match as a contest was pretty well over.

Hempnall came out well in the second half, again a few forays forward and decent defending kept the score unchanged for a fair proportion of the second half, but an injury forced the manager to bring himself on, and an injury to him made that a short lived performance.

Yarmouth ended the stronger and managed another two goals, largely through the tiring Hempnall play.

The score was not reflective of the difference between the two sides, though Yarmouth were undoubtedly deserved victors on this occasion, and good luck to them in the next round.

In my view, the game was very well refereed by Daniel Bird who controlled the game without reverting to the book for the odd mistimed challenge.
