Hempnall First Team v Horsford United

Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)
Report By Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)

Saturday, 29th April 2023, 2:30PM, at Hempnall #1

Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2022 - 2023

Win, 2 - 1

Hempnall welcomed Horsford Utd to Bungay Road for today’s encounter between an improving Hempnall and a team a few places higher in the League.

Horsford usually bring a number of enthusiastic supporters with them, and today was no exception, but the weather was excellent for watching a game of football.

Hempnall reverted to a flat back four, with Kelly andBlake the central partnership, Goldie again in his unaccustomed, but soon to be permanent (judging by today's performance) role, and

Horsford, for the first 20 minutes, played Hempnall off the park, but didn’t take their half chances, with the Hempnall defence largely withstanding the attacks and goalkeeper Davis able to mop up anything else.

Fast, flowing football from them but Hempnall counter attacking, and one attack saw Womack upended, the referee pointing to the spot. Blake made no mistake, and Hempnall went 1-0 up after 30 minutes.

We hoped that would be the start of something, but Horsford had a great move which, within a minute of the Hempnall goal, resulted in a fine finish, leaving Davis no chance.

Hempnall though responded well, and it was very entertaining end to end football for the fans, who were much enjoying this encounter.

Half-time 1-1

The second half saw Hempnall gradually get on top, Horsford for some reason regressed a bit, and, unlike to the first half, the 50/50 balls were going Hempnall’s way.

Hempnall were looking so much better, and an uncharacteristic poor defensive error from Horsford saw the excellent Womack pounce to put Hempnall in the lead.

We were witnessing a great midfield performance, all of the players were putting in a great shift, the defence was looking generally secure, we were still witnessing an excellent end to end game though no more goals were forthcoming, Hempnall can be very pleased with their performance.

Thanks Horsford for a great match, we all enjoyed it.

Great refereeing again I have to say from Andrew Crawford in what was a very competitive game.

There were some fabulous performances today, though for me, the stand out was Justin Womack – if not his best game for Hempnall over the years I’ve watched him, then very close to being!
