Saturday, 06th November 2021, 2PM, at Hempnall #1
Home Match, Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2021 - 2022
Draw, 1 - 1
Hempnall welcomed top of the table Beccles Town Reserves to Bungay Road.
After the previous week’s defeat at Poringland, Hempnall were hoping for a better performance against very tough opposition, though with Bunn having 7 players missing for various reasons, he had to play himself in midfield, and we were bracing ourselves for a tricky match.
With Bunn and Cattermole having their first games of the season, Hempnall started surprisingly well, albeit still managing to give the ball away in dangerous areas, as has, to be honest, become customary – just to keep the supporters on their toes.
Beccles were looking strong, though, playing some very decent football, though Hempnall were winning plenty of the ball, and one quick attack led to Cattermole being upended by the keeper.
Edwards despatched the penalty with aplomb, and Hempnall took an early lead.
This was turning into a very good game, with Kelly having easily his best game since his return from serious knee surgery, the old confidence having returned.
Everybody, though, was putting in a great shift, and manager Bunn was stepping in well, almost getting onto a couple of decent chances.
Beccles though continued to look very dangerous, and finally took one of their chances.
Hempnall still had a few half chances, but tiredness was catching u with them, though, with good goalkeeping and far better defending than of late, Hempnall held out comfortably.
Special mention to Cattermole who looked good in his first game. Miller has made a welcome return to the club and he too looked really good today.
In fact, it is difficult to pick out a MOM this week, so well done to all for the fine effort in difficult circumstances.
