Hempnall FC

Hempnall welcomed a youthful looking Great Yarmouth Reserves to Bungay Road, and for the first time all season, Hempnall had a full squad of 14 players.

From the off, Hempnall looked the better side, and we were treated to some very good football, with Hempnall tending to win the second balls, and after a few half chances, Womack latched on to the ball after the Yarmouth keeper failed to collect, and nodded in for Hempnall’s first.

At the other end, the defence was doing it’s job, and Hempnall looked the more likely to score a second, with Kelly looking close to being back to his old self after his long injury lay off. 

Womack and Marjoram were causing difficulties too, and prompted by an excellent midfield, Hempnall probably could have scored more, though in fairness, Yarmouth came close too on a couple of occasions.

Hempnall went in to half time 1-0 to the good.

For the first 20 minutes of the second half, we were largely treated to a Hempnall in control, and when Goreham finished well to make it 2-0, we thought it was all over.

However, Hempnall went to sleep, and Yarmouth came back into the game very well, and looked the more likely to score. As is now customary, Hempnall aided their own downfall, and with the referee decreeing a Hempnall player needed to go into the sin bin for comments made to another player, Yarmough promptly scored two goals, and until Edwards came back onto the pitch, it looked as though Yarmouth would most likely go on to win.

However, Hempnall then lost the negativity, and stormed back, and both teams again looked equally matched.

Whilst we were disappointed to concede two goals, we were more disappointed to have to play the match with 10 men for 10 minutes.

At the end though, a draw was a fair result I felt.

MOM: Difficult this week, I think for his work rate, Bunno and I both think George Watts was Hempnall’s MOM.
