Saturday, 14th March 2020, 2:30PM, at Hempnall #1
Home Match, Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2019 - 2020
Draw, 1 - 1
Hempnall welcomed mid table Attleborough Reserves to Bungay Road, hoping to make it three wins out of three to ease relegation fears.
With players still missing, Hempnall fielded a decent looking side and were confident that their good recent run would be sustained.
Both teams started brightly enough, though the quality of the football was not up to recent standards, and whilst both teams looked threatening at times, neither really looked like scoring.
Hempnall’s most threatening player, Womack, was unable to convert his half chances, and Choudery likewise was unable to add to his recent tally.
Both back fours were reasonably comfortable, and Edwards was having his best game for a while, and Shaun Kelly was also showing his excellence with a number of interceptions.
It was all fairly frantic, the final ball was missing this week, though Hempnall had a few flowing moves, one of which led to a corner, which was bundled in – there was a complaint that the ball had not crossed the line, but the lino and ref thought otherwise and Hempnall were 1 up.
They looked to be in control when a mis-timed long shot from an Attleborough player landed at the feet of a team-mate who finished baeutifully for 1-1.
Both keepers then made decent saves to keep the match even, and that’s where it stayed – a 1-1 draw.
A fair result I thought; Hempnall were not at their best, but a point against Attleborough was welcomed.
There were a few very good performances, Watts, Kelly, Womack to name but three, but the stand out performer for me today was Jimmy Edwards, my MOM.
