Saturday, 23rd February 2019, 2PM, at
Away Match, Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2018 - 2019
Win, 2 - 0
Today we travelled to Horsford, once again with a depleted side due to late call offs and one person not even bothering to turn up, so we started with the bare 11 which included the injured Billy Kelly and four lads from the Reserves, who fortunately had no game today.
We knew this would be a hard game against a strong, physical side who had previously beaten us 7-0 at Hempnall.
Hempnall started the game in strong fashion and it was Ryan Cullabine, on his first team debut, who nearly scored with a header, but it went narrowly wide. George Watts then went close, before Horsford came back strongly with a 15 minute spell when they came close, when they hit the bar following a corner , then Taylor had to be alert, making two great saves to keep it at 0-0.
The back four of Radford, Kelly, Clarke and Simon Cullabine were outstanding, keeping the strong Horsford front men quiet.
The midfield of Watts, Thompson, Clarke, Kelly and Ryan Cullabine were dangerous going forward and at times were playing their best football of the season.
Womack up top on his own ran their defence ragged.
Half time0-0.
The second half started with Hempnall again on top and 10 minutes into the half, Ryan Cullabine’s pace saw him easily rounding the keeper to coolly finish from a tight angle.
Hempnall continued to press forward and created some good chances but couldn't find the second goal.
Taylor once again made a super save and his handling was top class as Horsford had another spell with some dangerous free kicks and corners, but with 10 minutes left, good build up play from the back to the midfield then a great ball to Ryan Cullabine saw him finish well to make it 2-0.
Final score 0-2.
Special mentions to the four reserve team players, Jack thompson who was superb in the middle of the park against some great players, Simon Cullabine who was solid at left back, Ryan Cullabine on the wing who looked dangerous and took his goals well, and Tom radford who made some timely tackles.
It’s really hard to pick M.O.M this week lads coz it was a team effort but I will pick out Aaron Clarke as in my opinion this was his best game for the club.
