Saturday, 16th February 2019, 2PM, at
Home Match, Central & South Norfolk League Division 4 - 2018 - 2019
Loss, 2 - 6
Hempnall Reserves welcomed close rivals Sprowston Athletic Reserves to Bungay Road, looking to try and gain first place in the league.
For some reason, a sluggish Hempnall turned up, and were being easily outmanoeuvred by a young, fast and quite skilful opposiition who raced into a three goal lead and it could have been more but for a timely interception on the line by Simon Cullabine when the keeper had been beaten.
In all fairness, we thought this could be a sizeable defeat as Hempnall just looked out of sorts, but Hempnall started to fight back, Land went close then Hempnall were awarded a penalty for the keeper’s challenge on Danny Elton, coolly despatched to make it 1-3.
Another corner led to a fourth for Sprowston, then a Land shot saw their keeper pull off a decent save.
Hempnall came back again with Jack Thomson getting the goal that his all action performance deserved, so 2-4 at half time.
Hempnall played a bit better in the second half, the opposition were finding it more difficult to scythe through, though the game became end to end, with half chances galore.
Whilst the teams were more evenly matched, Sprowston managed another couple of goals, but Hempnall were unable to convert any of their half chances, and the match ended 2-6.
Joint MOM – Ryan Cullabine (the manager’s pick) and Jack Thompson (my pick).
