Saturday, 26th January 2019, 2PM, at
Away Match, Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2018 - 2019
Win, 2 - 1
This week we travelled to Acle Reserves looking for another good performance against a team that is currently sitting in the lower reaches of the division.
On Friday night, Bunno and I had a good squad to choose from, but unfortunately, we had two call offs on Saturday morning, which meant young Jordy Batterham stepped up from the Reserves to make his first team debut.
So we started with Taylor Davis in goal, a back 4 of Jordy, Tom Griffiths, Aaron Clarke and Shaun Kelly, a midfield 4 of Bunno, Jamie Miller, George Watts and Adam Clarke , with a front two of Womack and Gent, and Trett and the injured but still willing Billy Kelly on the bench.
The opening 20 minutes was fairly even, and it was Acle who took the lead after a long throw in caused problems, an Acle player reacted quickest to prod the ball home.
This seemed to spark Hempnall into life, and we were now causing Acle many problems, with Womack giving their defence a torrid time, then Adam Clarke went close.
Bunno had a shot which he skyed, but chances were being created, and for a time, the Hempnall back four were more or less spectators.
Miller and Watts in the centre were running the show and Gent and Womack were linking well up top but we failed to find the equaliser.
So, we went into half time 1-0 down.
Hempnall dominated the second half, and 15 minutes in, Miller fired home a free kick which left the keeper stranded.
Hempnall continued to create chances but failed to convert, on 80 minutes, Hempnall took the lead when captain Watts made a surging run into the box and cooly slotted home.
Billy came on for Bunno for the final few minutes to play his first game in a few months.
Final score 1-2.
Another great fighting performance which sees us unbeaten in 5, well done lads.
M.O.M for the second week running goes to Justin Womack, who's work rate up top was non-stop.
