Hempnall First Team v Costessey Sports

Jason Trett (Chairman)
Report By Jason Trett (Chairman)

Saturday, 10th March 2018, 2:30PM, at Longwater Lane #1

Away Match, Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2017 - 2018

Win, 5 - 2

On Saturday we travelled to Costessey knowing we had to get 3 points.

This week, we changed formation and gave Matty Hartle his debut up front, and within 8 minutes he got Hempnall off to flying start when he smashed home from 12 yards.

Hempnall were on top in the early stages but as usual we conceded a sloppy equaliser on 20 minutes, but in fairness Hempnall heads didn't drop and we continued to cause Costessey many problems, with Billy and Jamie on the wings getting past defenders with ease and putting good balls in the box.

On 35 minutes, a great cross from Beefy found the head of Bennett who headed home.

Half time 1-2.

The second half once again saw Hempnall looking comfortable, and Billy Kelly fired home to make it 3-1.

Clarke and Hartle looked very strong up front together and linked up very well, Beefy and Watts ran the midfield and the back four of Clarke. Kelly. Bennett and King kept the pacey Costessey forwards very quiet.

On 70 minutes, Jamie Etherington scored our 4th with a good finish from a tight angle, and on 80 minutes we were awarded a penalty, which Bennett cooly slotted home for 5-1.

Hempnall did concede a second on 90 minutes to make the final score 5-2.

Well done lads on a good win and performance, difficult to choose a m.o.m, but for me, Hartle, Davis and Etherington were just a cut above, though all 14 involved were superb.
