Hempnall First Team v Gimingham Utd

Jason Trett (Chairman)
Report By Jason Trett (Chairman)

Saturday, 07th October 2017, 2PM, at Hempnall #1

Home Match, Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2017 - 2018

Loss, 2 - 3

This week we played at home to Gimingham in the 1st round of the Junior Cup.

This was a game which we should have won, but in my opinion, the boys preparation in the warm up wasn't the best and unfortunately this was taken into the game and we were not at our best in the first 45 minutes, although we should of been 3-0 up after 10 minutes, but the chances we created were not put away.

Then Gimingham scored on their first attack ay about 15 minutes in.

Billy Kelly and Tom Griffiths linked well with Ben Lewis and Forbo and we looked dangerous on several occasions but couldn't find the net.

Again, Gimingham broke away and made it 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Half time 0-2.

Managers’ team talk was not to panic and an early goal would bring us back in the game.

That is what happened, and 20 minutes into the 2nd half, Hempnall deservedly pulled a goal back with the best move of the match, after good work by Billy Kelly and Griffiths found Ben Lewis in the box to slot home.

Hempnall were now on top and an equaliser soon followed with Ben Lewis scoring his 2nd of the game to make it 2-2 on 70 minutes.

Wayne Collins nearly put us in front with a well taken free kick which the keeper saved, a header from the same player after a goalmouth scramble went wide, added to that, Shaun Kelly was making good runs from the back searching for the winner.

With 5 mins left, Gimingham hit the winner on the counter attack.

Final score 2-3.

Very disappointed this week after a run of good performances, players need to start taking games like this more seriously and warm up correctly and not be second best in the first 30 minutes of games.
