Sunday Junior Cup First round.

Mulbarton U19 Away.

Hempnall travelled to local neighbours Mulbarton U19s in the cup, with manager Kelly having a strong squad it looked like it was going to be a good day and it started off brightly with Cullum having a chance inside the first minute but clipped the bar instead of the net.

The game then took a turn for the worse, when, from a Hempnall corner, Mulbarton played a long ball out to the winger who delivered into the box to the unmarked striker who headed past the stranded Bailey.

Only a couple of minutes later, Mulbarton added a second when their midfielder was left unmarked to curl the ball into the far corner, so 2 down after only 10 minutes.

After some stern words to the team from manager Kelly, Hempnall finally started passing the ball around and forced a corner, which Reynolds delivered into the box for Robins to head home. Game on.

Again another long ball from Mulbarton beat the defence but this time Bailey was on hand to collect the ball, in doing so the Mulbarton player followed through and caught him with his studs inflicting a nasty gash across Bailey’s eye. After being patched up by Kelly, the game resumed, with Robins making way for Melton.

This seemed to give Hempnall the spark they needed, they began to press higher and cause problems for the opposition and be more dominant with the ball, the second goal game through higher pressing in which Melton picked up a poor clearance and volleyed home for 2-2

Only a couple of minutes later Hempnall took the lead through a ball inside the fullback, which Collins deftly put away for 3-2.

From this point on the only team in the game was Hempnall and this told when Sam Fisher scored the 4th to put us in complete control.

HT 4-2, the only words from the gaffer were to keep the ball simple and press higher.

Hempnall started the second half the way they finished the first, and began creating chances with Ellis having the best of them, though his finishing left a lot to be desired,.

The 5th goal came through a long free kick from Reynolds, which was flicked on by Ellis for Cullum to poke home, 5-2.

With 20 minutes left the manager decided to bring himself and Robins on for Cullum and the ever running Craske.

This immediately paid dividends, a ball from Melton found Kelly, who cut inside and curled the ball into the top corner (though many claimed it was a cross, it definitely wasn't).

Kelly then turned provider when he played in Ellis who nutmegged the defender and rolled the ball home much to his relief as it was his 27th attempt of the game, 7-2.

The final goal of the game was probably the best, the ball was played out from the back, into Melton who found Fisher out wide, he played a 1-2 with Kelly and played the ball across the box for Ellis to produce an ‘Henri like’ back heel finish to make it 8-2 and that's how the game finished.

M.o.M had to be Sam Fisher, his non stop running, constant threat and his final product caused Mulbarton all kinds of problems, bagging himself a goal and a couple of assists in the process.
