Hempnall F.C. Reserves v Beccles Town Res

Report By Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)

Saturday, 17th September 2016, 2:30PM, at Hempnall #1

Home Match, Almary Green Anglian Combination Division 5 South - 2016 - 2017

Loss, 1 - 6

Hempnall Reserves welcomed Beccles Town reserves to Bungay Road. Much of the Beccles side is that the first team competed against in senior football last season, and we knew it was going to be tough given that Beccles had already scored 32 goals in 3 matches, so averaging just over 10 per match.

Oakley remained calm and undeterred, confident that we could gain a point if Beccles were a little blow par and we could turn it on.

Sadly for Hempnall, the former wasn't really the case, as Beccles looked pretty good throughout, their defence generally strong and Hempnall not quite strong enough to trouble them frequently enough.

However, it was a very entertaining game, and a little more luck with decisions, notably a clear offside leading to a Beccles goal, we would have been at least one goal closer.

Had Ali Harvey managed to covert his golden chance, we would have been two closer. But it wasn't to be, and Hempnall's only goal came from a fine finish by Rout.

All the team worked hard, and with players yet to return from injury, things are looking bright for the lads. The team spirit is there for all to see.

Onwards and upwards.
