Hempnall First Team v Beccles Caxton

Jason Trett (Chairman)
Report By Jason Trett (Chairman)

Saturday, 16th February 2019, 2PM, at

Away Match, Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2018 - 2019

Loss, 0 - 1

On Saturday we travelled to promotion favourites Beccles Caxton, and once again we had 2 call offs on Saturday morning but still went with a strong 13.

Beccles started the game a lot better than Hempnall and after 10 minutes, from their second corner took a deserved lead with a header at the back post.

Hempnall started to get into the game and were now matching Beccles all over the pitch; Taylor in goal was now mainly a spectator, but commanded his area and when needed, dealt well with any threat.

The back four of West, Leather, Kelly and Aaron Clarke were outstanding against a strong and physical Beccles forward line.

The midfield of Ethrington, Adam Clarke, Miller and Watts were excellent, in particular Miller who was spreading the ball with ease.

The front two of Womack and Gent worked tirelessly up top.

Neither team created many chances in the first half and no further goals were scored, so we went into half time 0-1.

Hempnall started the second half well and more than matched beccles, in fact throughout the second half, Beccles never looked like threatening the Hempnall goal. That was down to the work rate of every Hempnall player from the front to the back.

Stridey came on for West with 20 minutes to go and looked good on the ball.

Hempnall were on top to the end but unfortunately couldn't find the net.

Final score 1-0.

Great work rate throughout the squad, both Bunno and I can see how much we have come on this season and we both look forward to a good season next year, but let's see this season out boys and finish on a high.

This week anyone could have earned M.O.M but my pick for his great passing and vision is Jamie Miller.
