Hempnall Reserves v Rockland United Res

Home Match, Central & South Norfolk League Division 4 - 2018 - 2019

Draw, 0 - 0

Hempnall Reserves welcomed Rockland Utd Reserves to a very windy Bungay Road.

With the first team not having a game, two first teamers were included, Taylor Davis (drafted into goal), and Shaun Kelly (a willing substitute).

After losing to the same team in the Cup a week or two back, Hempnall were in determined mood not to let their slight adviantage in the league be eroded.

Fortunately, the wind was blowing more across the pitch, neither team had a particular advantage either half.

Land was looking the most likely Hempnall player to break the deadlock, and the away keeper had to be alert at his near post to keep a cross shot from Land out.

At the other end, Davis was pleased to see a shot sail over, then one hit the crossbar, but Hempnall again broke away to go close from a free kick which the keeper saved with his feet.

The action stayed in the opposition last third for a while.

The second half was end to end, Davis had to make a brave stop at the feet of the Rockland forward, then the Hempnall assistant manager Parnell headed well from close to the goal line.

Land meanwhile was harrassing the Rockland defence, Cullabine forced a brave intervention from the keeper at his feet, the Hempnall midfield were pressing, and substitute Kelly showed his dribbling skills on more than one occasion.

Hempnall came closest with a header from Tupper that looked goalbound but it was not to be.

Neither team were at their best, both goalkeepers were called into action on several occasions, and as expected, the game was a close affair.

Either team could have walked off with the points but in the end, a draw was probably a fair result.

Secretary’s MOM Ashley Land.
