Hempnall F.C. Reserves v Bungay Town

Saturday, 08th December 2012, 2:30PM, at Maltings Meadow #1

Away Match, Anglian Combination Division 2 - 2012 - 2013

Loss, 0 - 5

With the amount of rain we had in the week leading up to the game, there were question marks about whether the game would go ahead.

A local derby game against Bungay is always something you want to take part in, over the years there have been some great battles between the 2 teams.

The squad we had available was solid on the monday and then by the Tuesday it was a little lightweight after the first team replaced their suspended players. Towards the end of the week we had put together an unusual mix of players which could be described as an 'unknown quantity'.

With this squad I really had no idea which way this game would go!! The game started at a typically frantic pace with Bungay edging the possession and looking dangerous 2 lively strikers. The deadlock was broken by a quality strike which rocketed into the top corner from the Bungay winger after just 10 minutes.

The next 30 minutes we battled back into the game, until 2 minutes before half time when Bungay grabbed their second.

The second half continued the same vein as the first with Bungay creating some good chances and controlling the game in key areas. I had said at half time which ever team grabbed the 3rd goal of the game would probably go in to dominate the final stages if the game. Unfortunately for us, Bungay scored the 3rd.

A few minutes later Danny Q was shown a red card for a one -on-one where he clipped the striker on the way through, a harsh red card but this wasn't to be our day!

Great credit to all the lads involved who battled hard right until the final whistle even though the game had gone.

A huge positive was the late introduction of Dave Adams who's been sidelined for 2 years with a knee injury. Great to see him (one of the best centre backs in the Ang com) back on the field.
