Hempnall First Team v Brandon Town

Jason Trett (Chairman)
Report By Jason Trett (Chairman)

Saturday, 30th September 2017, 2PM, at Brandon Remembrance Field #1

Away Match, Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2017 - 2018

Loss, 2 - 3

Today we travelled to Brandon in the last 16 of the league cup.

Once again, we knew we were in for a very tough game as they play in the league above.

Brandon started the game better than Hempnall and took the lead from the 1st corner of the game on 15 minutes, which once again seemed to kick Hempnall into gear

Both wingers, Clarke and Kelly, were looking lively and Griffiths and Forbo linking up well. Hempnall started to create chances but on 30 minutes, Brandon took a 2-0 lead, once again from a corner.

Forbo had a good chance just before the break but found his shot blocked on the line.

Half time 2-0.

The half time team talk was very positive from both managers and players, as we knew we could get back into the game.

The second half, Hempnall started far better than Brandon with Billy Kelly looking dangerous every time he got the ball.

Beefy was outstanding in midfield and the back four dealt with everything that came their way, especially Shaun Kelly.

10 minutes into the 2nd half, a good move between Griffiths, Edwards and Billy Kelly resulted in an excellent finish from Kelly to put us back in the game.

Hempnall were now well on top and on 65 minutes deservedly equalised when Bennett fired home from 15 yards after a good move from Kelly and Edwards.

2-2 and Hempnall now looked the side who would go on and win with Billy Kelly having a couple of chances and James Edwards should have had a penalty (which was seen by everyone except the referee), then with 5 minutes left, Brandon scored the winner against the run of play.

Final score 3-2.

Brilliant performance once again throughout the team, and the atmosphere in the changing room before and after the game was buzzing, good times ahead, LADS, with performances like that. Proud manager and loving my Saturday afternoons.
